Corporate Compliance

What is the Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program?

It is a formal program supporting DNCI’s commitment to follow policies and standards of conduct that ensure we are in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Under the direction of Corporate Compliance Officer, the Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program:
• Develops policies, procedures, and a code of conduct
• Establishes procedures to prevent, detect and correct non-compliance
• Promotes a corporate culture which encourages ethical conduct
• Promotes a commitment to compliance with ALL laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures
• Serves as a resource to resolve compliance and ethics issues

How do I recognize compliance or ethical issues in the workplace?
• Know the laws and regulations which apply to your position
• Be willing to help others in need
• Be observant of your surroundings
• Be responsible for all your actions
• Be kind to all you interact with every day

Here are some common examples of compliance issues/behaviors that all employees should know:
• Never read another employee’s confidential records without permission
• Never use another person’s password to access confidential information
• Only discuss a patient’s condition with those involved in the patient’s care
• Never treat or act differently to someone because they identified a compliance or ethical issue
• Only bill for visits, procedures and/or tests performed
• Always provide complete documentation for ALL services performed

Why is compliance important to me?
• Shows commitment to honest and responsible corporate conduct
• Helps identify and prevent illegal and unethical conduct
• Improves quality of patient care and reputation in the community
• Creates a Corporate Culture based on mutual respect, understanding, fairness and accountability
• Provides “ZERO TOLERENCE” against retaliation/retribution in any form or to any degree from anyone, directly or indirectly

Compliance affects everyone.  As a DNCI employee, you are expected to:
• Carry out your job duties with integrity, excellence, respect, and honesty
• Learn and understand what laws and regulations apply to your position and to comply with those requirements
• Exercise good judgment and do the right thing when performing your job duties
• Know DNCI’s Mission and become a partner in fulfilling it.
• Report suspected compliance violations, errors or issues to your immediate Supervisor

Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program Mission Statement:
The Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program establishes the newest department created by Del Norte Clinics, Inc’s (DNCI’s) Board of Directors.  It furthers their commitment to uphold DNCI’s mission of providing high quality medical, dental, social, and educational health services.  The compliance and ethics program headed by the Corporate Compliance Officer is designed to prevent, detect, and respond to issues of non-compliance.
Its goals are to establish effective guidelines to maintain compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, DNCI’s policies and procedures and nurturing a culture of high ethical and moral standards. With its commitment to integrity in the community, the compliance program accomplishes these goals through education and training of DNCI’s Board members and employees. In addition, DNCI establishes partnerships with independent contractors, suppliers, and vendors, which maintain the same high ethical and moral standards.
Finally, with this commitment to a culture based on fairness, respect, equal treatment, open and honest communication, ethical and moral conduct, DNCI’s corporate responsibility benefits our most important people, the patients and the communities DNCI serves.
